Feral cats are a worldwide problem and are frequently controlled by euthanasia. Non-surgical sterilization offers the promise of a low-cost humane solution that does not require the cats to undergo surgery. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of a GnRH-based vaccine for contraception in female cats. This study is still in progress. So far a single dose of vaccine has prevented pregnancy in 73% of cats for 27 months and 40% of the cats for 48 months. This vaccine has the potential to improve feline welfare by increasing access to humane population control options throughout the world.
