The Director of Lee County Animal Services has invited Maddie's Shelter Medicine Program at the University of Florida to provide a comprehensive assessment of shelter operations. The goal of this assessment is to maximize the shelter's ability to achieve its overall mission while optimizing animal health and welfare. The assessment is designed to identify strengths and weaknesses, and provide remedies and supportive resources to ensure the safe, humane, and effective care of shelter animals.
No shelter can be fully successful without a strong community commitment to improving animal welfare. Saving lives requires a climate of mutual respect and a culture of collaboration between the shelter, nonprofit organizations, and the public.
We encourage animal welfare stakeholders, including non-profit agencies, public officials, LCAS customers and volunteers, and animal lovers to share their views about LCAS operations. This feedback is vital to creating a fully informed review of LCAS and the community it shares. Comments can be submitted via an on-line survey and/or during a community stakeholder meeting with the consultants. Surveys can be submitted anonymously if desired.
